New Food Challenge

I love wandering the “fresh” section of a grocery store and seeing what is new / what I can create.  I was at Jewel the other day, and came across this interesting looking fruit. I have heard of it before but never tasted it. Cue the dragon fruit. So I brought the fruit home and started researching what the heck dragon fruit was.

Dragon-FruitUnfortunately, It does not come from a magical dragon-tree that is guarded by Khaleesi and her dragons. But it does have some magical benefits on your body. Also known as pitaya, these fruits  are rich in vitamin C, B1, B2 and B3, and minerals such as iron, calcium, and phosphorus.

So I tried dragon fruit and was less than impressed. It has the consistency of a kiwi but not much flavor. There aren’t many recipes out there except throwing it into a fruit salad. I cut some up and blended it with my morning smoothie. Have you tried it before? I’d love to hear some dragon fruit suggestions.

Try a new food this week.

No, not a cheeseburger loaded with all the fixings… a food that is good for you. A new fruit? A salad combination you’ve been meaning to try? Maybe wander around the fresh section of your local grocery store and see what you can create.

Did you know that your taste buds change over time? Also, your taste preferences may fluctuate with your hormones. Even though you didn’t like something a year ago, you may enjoy it now. For example, I hated coleslaw for the longest time. One day I decided to try it again and now I love it! Have you thought about trying a certain food with a different recipe?

Being flexible and adventurous in what you eat is a mark of maturity and adaptability. It’s not just about the food. The risks you take at the dinner table can be extensions of the way you live. you may discover a whole new side of yourself in the process.

I’m looking forward to hearing about your findings! Share your comments below or on FACEBOOK.
